Antique Auto Advertising:
What’s A Matador?

Murilee’s Junkyard Find of a 1976 AMC Matador Barcelona edition broke an unwritten rule that every time the Matador is mentioned, the ironic-before-irony-was-cool “What’s A Matador?” ad campaign, that tried to capitalize on the model’s obscurity, must be referenced. It was a clever marketing approach, but unfortunately for AMC it didn’t end up making the Matador a a big seller. In fact, there are probably more middle aged folks who remember “What’s A Matador?” than actually remember what a Matador looked like.
