The Woodward Dream Cruise is billed at the largest one day car event in the world. Properly speaking, that’s not true. While the official Dream Cruise and festivities are indeed on the third Saturday in August the truth is that people cruise Woodward all summer long and in the week or so before the actual Cruise owners start congregating with their cool cars on or next to Detroit’s famed boulevard. By midweek there are already spectators on lawn chairs. To give you an idea of just how big the event has become and also so you can see that the Dream Cruise is not just Detroit iron and muscle cars here’s video shot on Thursday evening at the corner of Woodward and 13 Mile Road. Sure, Dream Cruisers celebrate our local products, but the Cruise is a festival of cars, all cars, and you’ll see Jaguars, old Porsches and Fix-It-Again-Tony vintage Fiats. Don’t just watch the curb lane. While processing the video I noticed an early ’50s Packard driving by on one of the other Woodward lanes that I hadn’t even noticed when it actually happened as well a late ’30s Ford custom crossing Woodward on 13 Mile. Enjoy Detroit’s version of a small town’s strawberry festival.
