Though the Great Race is open to a variety of older cars, it gives the owners of classic era “speedsters” a chance to drive their cars competitively. I’m guessing that “speedster” was an early term for “hot rod”. Though there were factory built speedsters like the Auburn “boat tail” speedster, most were custom jobs, often converted by their owner. All unneeded bodywork was removed and attempts were made at aerodynamics, like tapered, tear drop tails. This Auburn was one of a number of speedsters that participated in the 2012 Great Race.
