Chevy superdealer, NASCAR team owner and Corvette aficionado Rick Hendrick bid $1,050,000 for the first 2014 Corvette when it rolls off the production line sometime later this year. GM put the car up for sale at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction to benefit the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, one of the world’s leading design schools, particularly when it comes to automotive design.

As is the custom with high profile charity sales at B-J, they interrupted the bidding to spiff up the sale with some perks, in this case, GM styling head Ed Welburn said that the buyer could take delivery at GM Design headquarters at the GM Tech Center. Considering that Hendrick is one of GM’s biggest volume dealers as well as their highest profile and most successful NASCAR team owner, my guess is that Rick can drop by GM Design anytime he wants to when he’s in Detroit.
