Superior Controls of Plymouth, Michigan makes manufacturing systems. At the 2013 SAE World Congress they were promoting an AGV (automatically guided vehicle) system that is guided and powered by cables embedded in the floor. AGVs are the powered carts that carry a component (or complete vehicle) down the assembly line and they typically run on batteries that need swapping and recharging. Traditional conveyor systems rely on chain drive systems that need constant maintainance. Superior Controls’ AGVs are powered by induction from one of the two cables and they are controlled via signals on the other cable. To demonstrate their wares to the World Congress attendees, Superior Controls had working scale models running on a small platform. It was like slot cars, only without any slots. Superior should mass produce those scaled down systems and sell them to the toy market
