The IndyCar racers warming up for the second race in the Dual in Detroit weekend. In the first video the camera rig was set up by the Belle Isle Casino just outside turn 8, where you can see the cars come off of turn 7 at the end of the straightaway along the Detroit River, which is the fastest part of the course. After exiting 7, there’s a small kink to the right as they set up for turn 8, a hard 90 to the left, followed by a hard acceleration down a short straight before they enter the 9,10,11 complex. Where the track surface broke up during last year’s race was between turns 8 and 9, and with the new pavement, the drivers were really hauling ass as they came off of turn 8.

The second video was shot at turn 7 and picks up the cars just as they leave the breaking zone on the river straight and start to turn in for the corner. It’s interesting that the only place from where you can see the fastest parts of the track, that river straight and the revised circuit’s straight on the island’s Central Ave, is television. This video was taken from the only grandstand near the river straight and even from the top rows, you can’t see the track before the turn. There’s a small grandstand inside turn 4, at the end of the Central Ave straight, but the seats there face away from the straight. Actually I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that the majority of the track cannot be seen by spectators because of the concrete “Jersey barriers” and the catch fences that are blanketed with sponsors’ logos.
