In recent years, the organizers of the big Detroit auto show, aka the NAIAS, put on something called The Gallery off premises from Cobo Hall on the weekend before the official media preview. The Gallery is a collection of ultra luxury and high performance cars on display for a select guest list of about 400 heavy hitters. Apparently it works because the Aston Martin salesman that I spoke to there told me that they’d gotten a number of “firm handshakes”, since no actual sales take place at the event. This year’s Gallery was held at the MGM Grand casino in Detroit and they had a Ferrari F12 positioned at the end of a hallway to let you know you were in the right place. After the media got our chance to photograph the cars (the actual Gallery is restricted to invitees and a very small list of reporters) they started removing the fine automobiles. As I left, that F12 was being driven up the hallway to wherever the loading access was. The Grateful Dead, in Hell In A Bucket, sang of riding Harleys up and down carpeted halls. I figured that seeing a Ferrari being driving down a hotel hallway was odd enough to capture this 3D video for you.
