Evan Glodell’s indie film Bellflower, said to be a cross between a Mad Max apocalyptic and a John Hughes coming of age flick, is getting a lot of attention from car enthusiasts because a central character in the movie is Medusa, a flame throwing Buick Skylark. Film director and producer Evan Glodell introduced the car earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, and later Glodell and actor Tyler Dawson drove Medusa on to the red carpet at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin. Vince Grashaw, one of the film’s producers and actors, has also been driving Medusa to colleges around the country to stir up interest in the film. In addition to the flame throwers, the car has fully functional dash-mounted surveillance cameras, smoke-screen generator, a supercharger, full roll cage, and driver adjustable suspension. Oh, and a sawed off shotgun in the trunk. With as much buzz as their is about this film after Sundance and SXSW, I’d be surprised if Glodell hasn’t already locked up licensing deals for scale model replicas of Medusa. The filmmaker also brought the car to a Makers’ Faire earlier this year, where this 3D video of the car belching fire was shot. The film opens in theaters on Aug. 5. You can see the official trailer (not 3D) for the R rated film and Medusa’s arrival at SXSW after the jump.
