You’ve seen pace car replicas before, you may have even been to a race and seen a pace car in action, but rarely have so many actual pace cars been on display at one time. To celebrate their centennial, Chevy had a parade of 100 cars up and down Woodward, including 50 owner driven Chevy Volts, some “heritage cars” and these authentic pace cars, including the famous orange and white ’69 Camaro from the Indy 500, this year’s pace car, a 2011 Camaro styled after the ’69 pace car (that’s Adam Barry, who styled the pace car and production Bumblebee, Synergy and Red Flash editions of the Camaro, standing in front of the car in the photo gallery), a very pretty white and blue ’67, the Chevy SSR sport truck “pace vehicle” that paced the Indy 500 in 2003, the 25th Anniversary Corvette used in the ’78 500, and the Z06 Corvette used in the 2010 Brickyard 400. The hotel where GM was having the reception for the Volt owners was also hosting a number of folks who drove in for the Dream Cruise, including some of the 500 members of the Lone Star Corvette Club. One of them drove his ’02 Indy pace car replica to the event (and from the event decals in his window, he drives to many events) and I’ve included that in the gallery as well as a 1998 Corvette Indy 500 pace car replica that was out cruising on Woodward.
