It’s Chevy’s 100th birthday this year. 1911 was when Billy Durant, having lost control of GM to his financial backers, hooked up with the famous racing Chevrolet brothers in order to compete with his former business. Chevy became so successful that Durant used its stock (and the help of the DuPont family) to retake control of GM. To celebrate their centennial, Chevrolet held a parade of 100 cars on Woodward Ave. Though the purpose of the parade was to publicize the Chevy Volt and new subcompact Chevy Sonic, GM also brought out a collection of real Indy 500 pace cars, used in races from 1967 to this year, including the iconic white and orange 1969 pace cars as well as the Nurburgring lap record Zr1 Corvette. We featured photos of those pace cars, and of Mustang pace cars in previous posts but now that the video has been processed, here are these Chevy pace cars parading on Woodward, with NASCAR champions Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson waving them on with green flags.
