Matt Farah, one of the hosts of the Speed channel’s The Car Show, is a good guy and a reader of The Truth About Cars. Matt made this video as a shoutout to the TTAC staff and readers and also as a clever way of getting TTAC’s esteemed ed Ed to run a trailer from the The Car Show on TTAC. Why, that’s almost as if Bob Lutz were to give Ed an exclusive and lengthy interview to make sure that the site known to be most skeptical of GM and not a little bit critical of Maximum Bob himself runs the interview and thereby keeps up people’s interest in Car Guys vs Bean Counters, released in June. Wait, that’s what did happen. Actually, I’m fine with this kind of reciprocal promotional benefit. Jack Baruth and I both write for TTAC and it’s nice to see one of the best car sites on the web get attention from a high profile cable show like The Car Show. There’s nothing unethical about media venues promoting each other. No different than an author pitching a book on the Today Show. It’s about cross promotion and since I’m all about promoting this site, I’m running this video in a shameless attempt to get Matt to plug Cars In Depth on The Car Show. Hey Matt, be a sport, like you say in the video, “just ’cause I asked, man”. I put up a link to your show’s Hulu site. I even have an idea how you can work the plug in. Do a Car Show segment on the virtual reality and 3D technology the car companies use in the design and engineering of tomorrow’s cars. Watching you, Adam, John and Dan “driving” in Ford’s VR lab would be entertaining.
Oh, and keep the slot cars. I still have my slot car set that I got in 1967 as a Bar Mitzvah present from my parents. 1/32 scale with four lanes, rare for a home set, a little closer to something you’d find at a slot car shop. The four cars in the set were the Ford GT (interestingly it’s not called the GT40), the Lola T-70, Jim Hall’s Chaparral II, and a Ferrari P330P/LM. No wonder I’m such a car nut. Matt, if you plug Cars In Depth on The Car Show, I’d even let the show borrow for an episode it so all four of you could race at the same time.
