The all new 2013 Ford Fusion from the floor of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Rather surprisingly, as much attention as the Fusion got during the media preview, when I went to the show during the public days, there were not many people looking at the new midsize Ford. To be honest, though, the Ford display was filled with all sorts of attention grabbing amusement park level activities and there were plenty of people availing themselves of that entertainment. It’s possible, though, that with the Shelby-Mustang-on-a-dyno, the motion simulator rally game, Ford’s theater in the round up in Cobo’s ceiling, the Raptor body drop, and the Ecoboost engine build, Ford’s display worked too well. All of those attractions were crowded, with people waiting in line. All of those people were exposed to Ford’s blue oval and they, no doubt, hear a Ford pitch, but I can’t help but think that all of those attractions might have distracted the crowds away from the things the Ford wants them to see in the first place, you know, like their cars and trucks.
