Among the many interactive and participatory attractions at the 2012 NAIAS were driving simulators. We shot video of three manufacturers’ sim setups plus over to the side at Cadillac were sim rigs that weren’t in use. In addition to things like huge flat display panels or three-panel setups, all the driving sims that I saw also had motion simulation. No two of the sim setups were the same. Mazda’s ride around Laguna Seca was more like an amusement park ride, you got strapped in and went along for the ride. Ford’s was a sophisticated multi-axis racing sim. The simplest was Toyota’s, with a single seat pod that had one medium sized flat screen.
