When I asked Scott Dixon, before the race about the conflict between the competitive racing that a spec racing series produces and the late, great, Mark Donohue’s desire to always have an unfair advantage, he agreed with me that as a driver he wants the fastest car so he can win the pole, lead every lap and take the checkered flag. It turned out that’s exactly what Dixon did for this race. He won the pole, led from flag to flag and came in first ahead of teammate Dario Franchitti who probably had the drive of the race, starting in 14th and working his way through the field to take the runner up position. The end of the race ran mostly under yellow due to rain but as is sometimes the case with summer rainstorms, the sky cleared just enough after the race that a rare double rainbow provided the backdrop to the podium festivities.
